Over The Top Quilting Studio
We have been honored with the privilege of making a real difference in the lives of people who have suffered the lost of someone they love through thecreation of a quilt.
Memorial Quilts are a real and tangible way of celebrating the life of a loved one by honoring their memory through the formation of a quilt made up of their cherished clothing. They are a path to comfort and renewal by wrapping yourself with a tastefully and very customized piece of fabric art. The people for whom we have made such quilts have found peace and joy in the memories and 'magical moments' contained in the metamorphosis of clothing into quilt.
Each quilt is absolutely unique and is customized to reflect both the loved one as well as the recipient of the quilt. We spend much time understanding both parties and work with enormous respect to the person and their articles of clothing. The result is a life fulfilling piece of fabric art which will be deeply loved and cherished. Please contact us to set up a consultation.
Read a testimonial from a client who has become a dear friend as we worked together on the creation of Barbara's Memorial quilt.
Dear Susan and Chris,
J. B. Priestley (1894 - 1985 ), British playwright, essayist, novelist, is one of my favorite authors. His 1929 novel, "The Good Companions," is one of the warmest and most satisfying reads that I know of. But, as I returned from Austin, carrying your remarkable work of art and affection, I felt the urge to re-read something else he wrote - - a late-life essay he titled simply "The Moments." From that insightful piece I quote the following:
"All my life, I now realize, I have been nourished and secretly sustained by certain moments that have always seemed to me to be magical.... If I have completed the tasks and shouldered the burdens all the way, finishing the marches without handing over my rifle and pack or dropping out, it is neither conscience nor energy that has kept me going but the memory and the hope of this magic. It has visited me before; it will come again. Sooner or later I would taste the honey-dew once more."
The memory quilt you made with fabrics from Barbara's wardrobe delights beyond my expectations; perhaps that's why you call yourselves Over the Top. You captured the spirit of the project all right - - the life themes we talked about in our early conversations. But, you also created something beyond that, something entirely unexpected. You have captured magical moments. It is a quilt, not of fabric pieces, but of moments.
Priestley goes on to describe them this way:
"It is my experience that even in love the magical moments come when they please, often when we're wearing all our clothes, far from the bedroom--just a meeting of eyes. So long as we experience these moments, we live in a magical world. So long as we remain open-ended, with one end open to the whole heritage of earth life, and the other open to influences beyond our understanding, another dimension is added. And, we taste the honey-dew once more."
And that is the taste of your quilt. You nourish me with magical moments once more. I am so very, very grateful.
